28 INDIE / ROCK guestlist.net Issue 64 / 2014 ARTIST OF THE MONTH GLASS ANIMALS In UK, Glass Animals are for sure one of the 'hypest' bands of this year. In June, they strike a blow releasing their seductive and ZABA. OUR PLAYLIST This Charming Man The Smiths Touch The Leather Fat White Family New Age The Velvet Underground A Lizard State King Krule Here's the Indie on our playlist this month: ALBUM OF THE MONTH THE DONKEYS - RIDE THE BLACK WAVE TRACK OF THE MONTH AVI BUFFALO - SO WHAT With their new album, The Donkeys seem to have put aside the loud rock tone we're used to listening from them. Nostalgic on demand, 'Ride the Black Wave' could not describe it better: wave recalls the beach and this Calfornian spirit, but also the throwback of memories that immerses people. However, The Donkeys have managed to catch a positive vibe and make their songs as bright as California is. The title track is couldn't have been better to illustrate this album mixing melancholy and hope. In a few words, 'Ride the Black Wave' is exactly what you need to warm up for summer : put your headphones on and it's just like you're walking around Venice Beach! On June 3, the band straight from San Diego The Donkeys released their fourth album 'Ride the Black Wave', which is no more, no less, a declaration of love to California. They are back! For years after their last album, the band from Long Beach just came up with So What, a smooth and pleasant track that you should definitely add to your chilling playlist. If they have kind of abandonned the dreamier melodies we've been accustomed to, it still brings back to what we loved from them. The vibe is sweet and sounds a bit more pop, and Avi Zahner-Isenberg's voice somehow recalls Death Cab for a Cutie singer's. This track comes just at the right time to kickstarts the upcoming sunny days, and provides a nice overview of Avi Buffalo's fourthcoming 'At Best Cloacker' album. In a few words: it's nice to see you again guys! After a while apart from the music scene, the band Avi Buffalo comes back with a new track annoucing their new album. We all have been blown away by this obsessive band from Oxford which has been compared to renomed artists such as Alt-J. They begun by streaming online some little gems like 'Black Mambo', which then has been featured on a double A-side by the label Wolf Tone. Charming on demand with this innocent and psychedelic melody, this song has been an explosive preview to Glass Animals' potential. Their brand new album ZABA was free to listen in stream- ing on their website before its release on June 9th. Re- corded in Wolf Tone London studios, those 11 tracks have got this exotic yet sexy flavours that definitely make Glass Animals' vibe addictive. For those that are already dependant, they set up several gig dates all over the UK and abroad this summer. For the other ones... your turn will come! More @ guestlist.net/indie
