That pattern has been to compile a winning record in non-conference play, win and remain competitive in the early portion of the Big Ten sched- ule, then lose the last six matches of the season. Sophomore forward Maddy Wil- liams and the Boilermakers are ready for that trend to come to an end in 2014. "We have the mindset that things need to change," Williams said. "What happened two years ago and this past year aren't what Purdue soccer rep- resents. " Last season, Purdue entered its Oct. 11 home match against Nebras- ka with a 3-2 conference mark — and 8-4-1 overall — and a chance to grab a share of first place in the Big Ten standings with a win. But Purdue failed to win again for the remainder of the season and missed out on qualifying for the Big Ten Tourna- ment. It finished with an 8-10-2 re- cord. After carrying a 13-game scoring streak into the Nebraska match, the fourth-longest in school history, the Boilermakers were shut out three times during the six-game losing skid and failed to score multiple goals in a Big Ten match. "Halfway through the Big Ten sea- son we were in a good position," Klatte said. "I really wouldn't have seen the wheels falling off the way they did. " It wasn't getting scoring chances, but finishing them that stymied the Boilermaker offense during its dip at the end of last season. Purdue outshot three of its final five opponents, including a 25-8 fig- ure against Minnesota, yet scored only three goals in the span. "We struggled finishing our chanc- es," Klatte said. "We just didn't finish. I think some of our scoring prowess started to dry up."
