Klatte is confident the Boilermakers can turn things around in 2014. "I feel like the experience we've garnered over the last two years will provide us with the motivation to maintain a level of focus and drive over the course of the season," Klatte said. Purdue returns six starters, including Williams, the Big Ten's returning leader in shots per game, and Alex Hair- ston, whose 20 career assists are two shy of a program re- cord. True freshmen Vanessa Korolas, Andrea Petrina and Maddy Woolford rounded out the rest of the attacking line- up in a 2-0 exhibition win over Illinois State. All three newcomers had strong debuts, as Petrina and Woolford scored Purdue's goals and Korolas played all 90 minutes. "We've got a couple very good soccer players in that freshman class," Klatte said. "They're good athletically, they're good technically, and even more so they're mental- ly competitive. I'm really excited about the opportunity of watching them progress, grow up and challenge for posi- tions." Petrina and Woolford should give Purdue a more bal- anced attack offensively after the team relied on forward Hadley Stuart too much last season, according to Klatte. "We'll probably have a lot more weapons going forward than this last year," Klatte said. "Hopefully, it will be more difficult to defend us and provide more of a variance in how we approach the final third of the field." The Boilermakers are expected to turn to sophomore Jordan Ginther or freshman Erika Yohn at goalkeeper to improve a defense that finished last in the Big Ten in goals against average (2.22) and second to last in saves (79). Ginther saw action in nine matches last season and started four to become the first true freshman in program PURDUE P E R S O N A L I Z E D P R I N t Gold and Black • 2605 Yeager Road • West Lafayette, IN 47906 • 1-800-876-4678 Visit the store at GoldandBlackDigital.com for this and other great Purdue Fan items! o My check or money order made payable to GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED is enclosed. o Please charge to my: o Visa o MasterCard o American Express o Discover Card No._________________________________________________ Exp.
