july Dear Readers, This issue was a joy to edit because it is full of inspiring young photographers. Colton Fischer, a native Texan, explores local ranches to show a different side of Texas. We hope that you enjoy the articles and the books by young photographers Carson Clark and Ben Knoot. Both self-published books using their own photos before the age of 15! I’ve been spreading the word about the Nature's Best Photography International Awards, ever since I first entered the competition in 2002. Now, with some help from the St. Mary’s editorial team, we bring you an interview with Editor-in-Chief, Steve Freligh. Steve shares tips on entering and tells the story behind how the competition got its name. I would also like to congratulate four of our regular contributors who are featured in this issue as part of the North American Nature Photography Associ- ation (NANPA) student scholarship group. Ben Knoot, Timothy Brooks, Alexandra Sandlin, and Johan Doornenbal all attended the summit in McAllen, Texas, this spring. If you are interested in applying to the scholarship program, you can contact me for more information, or for help finding a NANPA member to nominate you for the scholarship. Keep checking the blog and contributing your wonderful work to our Flickr site. Remember that we welcome proposals for articles and are interested in your ideas on how to make this a better publication. Hope to hear from you soon! —Gabby Salazar Editor, Nature’s Best Photography Students gabby@naturesbestphotography.com © Rick Stanley © Ben Apple
