24 • RV PRO • SEPTEMBER 2014 rv-pro.com Shasta: Shasta celebrates its 75 th anniversary with 20 models on display at Open House. Shasta GM Mark Lucas says the release of a remake of the 1961 Airflyte could be the most talked about event of the entire show. Lucas says the idea to remake the Airflyte with modern upgrades to meet standards of a new generation came about when he bought an original model for his wife. Engineers at Shasta took it apart and realized they could rebuild the iconic trailers. "I don't necessarily say it's a retro; everyone else is retrospective of a '61 Shasta," he says. "We're actually building a '61 Shasta. We're just updating the running gear and the appliances." Lucas says the plan was to keep the trailer under wraps until Open House Week, but word leaked out, and Shasta already has deposits from dealers on about 70 units. Only 1,941 of the trailers will be built, in honor of the year the company was founded. "We've received here at the factory a couple hundred email requests from people wanting more information and how they can reserve one," Lucas says. In addition, Shasta will unveil the Phoenix fifth wheel wide- body. e RV features a complete redesign with LEDs, vaulted ceilings, new graphics, new trim, new wood color and raised panel cabinet doors Shasta also will debut the Oasis stick-and-tin, entry-level towable with eight floorplans. Also on display will be the Flyte, a value-priced fiberglass sidewall unit with eight floorplans that will range from 21 to 30 feet in length. e Revere, which is in its fifth year of production, will feature a complete makeover, with multicolored metal on the outside with white exterior trim and awnings, LED lighting and medium walnut cabinetry. e unit will be available in lengths of 26 to 33 feet.
