In addition to solar being an environmentally friendly option, it also offers additional flexibility to placement of the sign without the worry of run- ning standard grid power. LEDs benefits, including reduced waist, lack of mercury, and solar compatibility make fluorescent proponents green with envy. Maintenance The long life of LEDs not only means the technology is an eco-friendly solu- tion but more importantly it eliminates the need for regular lamp replacements, resulting in greatly reduced maintenance costs. That long life reduces the need to fre- quently access a sign. This is especially convenient in hard-to-reach applications like pylons and signs on tall buildings. Closing off streets to give access to a scis- sor lift or crane, setting up scaffolding or a bucket truck to service a sign that has gone dark is not an optimum solution. The need for frequent maintenance of a sign opens up the risk of something else in the sign getting damaged or having to be replaced. Conclusion The sign industry has a rich history as a creative industry. Now with all of the advances with LED technology, acryl- ics, digital media and vinyls it is becom- ing even more eclectic and interesting. Adding LEDs is just one more step in expanding ingenuity in building unique and memorable signage. SDG e long life of LEDs not only means the technology is an eco- friendly solution but more importantly it eliminates the need for regular lamp replace- ments.
