n Michigan's 135 years of college
football, only 15 active programs have
posted an all-time winning record against
the Wolverines. Most of these schools have
played just a small sampling of games against
U-M, and several have played the Wolverines
just once. The most infamous of those one-
and-dones is Appalachian State — the
Football Championship Subdivision David
to Michigan's Goliath that came to The Big
House in 2007 and knocked off the No. 5 team
in the land.
The two have not met since the Mountaineers
became the first FCS program to ever upset a top-
25 squad from the Football Bowl Subdivision,
but that changes Saturday — although both
competitors are in a much different place than
seven years ago. Michigan has not competed
for a Big Ten title since that contest, while
compiling an overall record of 50-38. The
Wolverines are also now under the leadership
of Brady Hoke after Lloyd Carr retired and the
Rich Rodriguez experiment failed.
Appalachian State is also under new
leadership with former ASU quarterback
and longtime assistant Scott Satterfield, who
served as the Mountaineers' quarterbacks
coach in 2007, replacing the school's own

State's head coach, Scott Satterfield led
the Mountaineers to a 4-8 record.
