Former Michigan quarterback Tom
Brady, now in his 15th NFL season and
already established as one of the league's
best quarterbacks of all time, isn't show-
ing any signs of slowing down. Brady
dominated the Carolina Panthers in New
England's third preseason game Aug. 26,
throwing for 204 yards and two touch-
downs in just over a half of work during
the Pats' 30-7 win.
Brady completed 13 of 17 passes for 140
yards with one touchdown and no picks in
the first half alone. Still, his perfectionist
nature wouldn't allow him to be satisfied.
"Yeah, it wasn't bad, but there are a lot
of things that we left out there," he said in
the postgame. "We got bailed out there a
few times on a few defensive calls, missed
some blitz stuff, missed some throws. I
think we can be a lot better.
"It's an important week for us to try to
get better. The days are winding down
until all these games count. It gets pretty
exciting here in a few weeks, but you've
still got to try to use these days to make as
many improvements as we can."
Brady dove for a first down on one third-
and-short in proving his competitiveness,
and he led the Patriots to scores on three
of the five possessions he led. The first of
his two long drives covered 91 yards and
ended with a 40-yard touchdown pass to
Shane Vereen, the running back taking the
short offering and running for the last 37
yards. Brady went 4-of-5 for 83 yards on
the drive.
Next, he moved New England from its
own 9 with 1:47 remaining in the half into
position for a 60-yard Stephen Gostkow-
ski field goal that ended the stanza, and
then he capped an 80-yard, third-quarter
drive with a six-yard touchdown pass to
Vereen.
