Mayor's Message 2  IDAHO FALLS PARKS & REC FALL/WINTER 2014-15 The Discover Idaho Falls Guide you hold in your hand is the community's first stop for fall and winter activities in Idaho Falls. As the Idaho days get shorter and the tempera- ture drops, winter blues can creep up on us. I challenge the adults in our community to set the example for healthy, happy living by encouraging our youngest residents to get out, get involved and get active! The staff members and volunteers in the Parks & Recreation Division have been hard at work creating oppor- tunities to make an active lifestyle even more accessible this fall and winter season. Here are just a few examples: • Youth programs will include basketball leagues and clin- ics, dance classes, karate, jujitsu, and swim classes. • Special kid-friendly events like Daddy Daughter Date Night, Boo at the Zoo, Christmas with the Critters and Breakfast with Santa are sure to get the kids active and engaged. • Last year was the first year for the Laser Light Skate Night – a successful event that will be offered again this year. • Bike races like The Great Pumpkin Cross and Blue Goose Cyclocross are sure to get the heart racing. Kids aren't the only ones who will benefit from this year's activities. Adult programs are also offered to include basket- ball leagues and pick-up ball. Are you sad to see Movies in the Park end due to the colder weather? Don't be! We've moved the movies inside for Dive-in Movies at the Aquatic Center so families can watch a movie AND swim! I hope you will take the challenge to stay active and take advantage of all the amenities our community has to offer dur- ing the fall and winter. Be sure to stay connected by "liking" and "sharing" the Idaho Falls Parks & Recreation Facebook Page or by visiting our website at www.idahofallsidaho.gov and clicking on the "Play" tab at the top of the page. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the many volunteers and staff members at the City Parks & Recreation Division for offering a wide variety of fitness programs and lessons, maintaining our recreational facilities and supporting com- munity events. Be healthy! Get active! Enjoy Idaho Falls!
