GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 2 • 21 one of Purdue's biggest questions during the offseason. "I thought for the most part, they played pretty strong," Shoop said. "They had a few pressures, but Dan was able to get rid of the ball and you feel pretty good when you rush for a good num- ber of yards and your quarterback doesn't get sacked. He got hit some and had to throw the ball away some, but those guys hung in there and boy they're going to have to be even better this week. This defensive line, these are tough sons of guns (in the Chip- pewas) that we're going to have to play." MORE MOVES FOR GILLIAM Joe Gilliam played all three linebacker positions on Saturday. But he might have a more per- manent home, at least for a few weeks, now, as he is slated to fill in for Jimmy Herman on the strongside. Herman is out for a couple weeks after breaking a thumb late in the game vs. Western Michigan. It's a bit of a new role for Gilliam. The senior played weak- side much of train- ing camp, splitting repetitions there with Ja'Whaun Bentley, and he was a middle linebacker most of last season. But Hudson says Gilliam looked good during his snaps on the strong- side Saturday. "He played the position well, and he hasn't practiced it that much," Hudson said. "He did a great job, so we feel confident with him. We're coming back with Joe at Sam and then we'll have Sean (Robinson) and JB (Bentley), but every other kid in that room has to be ready because they're a snap away from playing. "Andy Garcia and Garrett (Hudson) and (Collin) Link, you could snap a finger and they're out there. We've been pushing them, feeding them water with a fire hose to get them ready." POSEY BACK Cameron Posey is back in Pur- due's lineup and expected to start in the slot, after being suspended for Week 1. "He's pretty crafty in between the hashes and so hopefully he'll help us a little bit on third down and working on some of the line- backers inside," Shoop said of the sophomore receiver against Cen- tral Michigan's expected zone defense. "Dan (Anthrop) has been do- ing a good job in there and (Dan) Monteroso is back as well. But we're sure happy to have Pose, that's for sure." j Tom Campbell Shoop thought the offensive line played OK in Game 1, but will need to be better against Central Michigan's front this Saturday. ... all the services ... all the food ... all the comfort ... all the fun
