GoldanDBlack express • volume 25, express 3 • 17 Cornerback 1. Anthony Brown 9 5-11, 192, Jr. 7 tackles, 1 TFL* Purdue's playing a majority of man defense in its secondary and seems to be holding up OK. Coverage has been good, including from Brown, but the Boilermakers, in the secondary and everyone else, need to tackle better. 2. Da'Wan Hunte 2 5-9, 175, R-Fr. Strong Safety 1. Frankie Williams 24 5-9, 189, Jr. 9 tackles, 1 int., 2 PBU* Because Williams' ejection came in the first half against Central Michigan, forcing him out of the second half, he will be eligible to play at the start of Saturday's game. Richards is also back from suspen- sion. The two will probably play together, as Purdue shifts Williams to nickel back in a five- DB package. 2. Taylor Richards 4 5-10, 196, Sr. Free Safety 1. Landon Feichter 44 6-0, 192, Sr. (5) 13 tackles, 0.5 TFL* Feichter and Williams com- bined for an ugly play against the Chippewas, when they bounced into a receiver, rather than pulling him down, on a 60-plus-yard touchdown. Those are the types of plays the Boilermakers have to clean up if they want any chance Saturday. If Logan gets cleared from concussion symptoms, he could play. 2. Austin Logan 5 6-0, 200, So. Cornerback 1. Antoine Lewis 23 5-10, 185, Sr. (5) 8 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU* Lewis blitzed the Chippewas a couple times, the second stripping the quarterback of the football on a sack. Russell, however, couldn't recover, negating Purdue of what was possibly a game-changing play. 2. Leroy Clark 3 5-10, 187, So. Rush 1. Jalani Phillips 89 6-4, 265, Sr. 6 tackles* Phillips has a couple QB pres- sures through the first couple games, but has been only a half step late of getting a sack. Purdue needs more. Robinson is potentially a playmaker but is limited in his know-how. He played only eight snaps against Central Michigan. 2. Gelen Robinson 13 6-1, 239, Fr. Strongside Linebacker 1. Joe Gilliam 39 6-1, 230, Sr. (5) 7 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 PBU* Gilliam is filling in for the injured Jimmy Herman on the strongside, with the sophomore likely to be back for Southern Illinois in a week. But how much Gilliam plays against the Notre Dame is in question; Purdue likely will play primarily in nickel against the Irish, keeping Gilliam on the sideline. 2. Andy James Garcia 42 6-0, 217, So. Middle Linebacker 1. Sean Robinson 10 6-3, 239, Sr. (5) 11 tackles* Robinson was still wearing red, signifying injury, in the middle of the week, but he wasn't missing repetitions. It's likely only a precaution after his knee infection a couple weeks ago. The Boilermakers need Robinson to be a bigger cog in their rush defense. 2. Garrett Hudson 16 6-3, 230, R-Fr. Weakside Linebacker 1. Ja'Whaun Bentley 35 6-2, 250, Fr. 9 tackles, 1 int., 1 PBU* Bentley's making big plays – his interception in the second half against Central Michigan gave the Boilermakers a bit of life – but will occasionally make a gap assignment mistake. Purdue has to live with him improving on the field, however, because it has no other experi- enced options. 2. Danny Ezechukwu 36 6-2, 246, R-Fr. End 1. Ryan Russell 99 6-5, 273, Sr. 6 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU* Russell got into the backfield a couple times against the Chippewas, picking up a sack. But it's not been enough. Purdue needs to gener- ate more disruption out of Russell and its front four. Coach Darrell Hazell had a meeting with Russell early this week, in an effort to see where Purdue can help those guys. 2. Evan Panfil 95 6-4, 251, So. Nose Tackle 1. Ra'Zahn Howard 14 6-3, 323, So. 3 tackles* Howard likely will continue to start, but his effectiveness is questionable. He's not in the best condition, which has been a perpetual problem for the big sophomore. Watson's more mobile and has been able to penetrate the line of scrimmage. He has a couple sacks. 2. Ryan Watson 92 6-2, 291, Jr. Tackle 1. Jake Replogle 54 6-5, 269, So. 6 tackles, 1 TFL, 0.5 sacks* Replogle has the potential to be a very good interior lineman for the Boilermakers, but to get there he likely needs another offseason to get bigger and stronger. For now, he must try to hold up as best as possible. He's still adjusting to seeing double-teams more regularly, after he didn't as an edge play a year ago. 2. Michael Rouse III 97 6-4, 314, Jr. DEfEnsE Vs Notre Dame Offense WR 2 Chris Brown 6-2, 195, Jr. 7 Will Fuller 6-0, 180, So. WR 3 Amir Carlisle 5-10, 190, Sr. 20 C.J.
