M
ichigan enjoyed a little home, sweet
home, following a sour sojourn on
the non-conference road. The Miami Red-
Hawks, losers of 18 straight coming in,
provided the pain-relieving pill in a 34-10
win by the 2-1 Wolverines.
Aside from a bizarre five-minute stretch
of the second quarter — when the Wolver-
ines killed their own drive and essential-
ly handed Miami their 10 points via three
turnovers — Michigan did as expected.
Fifth-year senior quarterback Devin Gard-
ner went 13-of-20 passing for 184 yards
and two touchdowns, while sophomore
tailback Derrick Green churned out 137
yards and two touchdowns on 22 tries.
Michigan's defense plucked the Red-
Hawks, when they weren't getting hand-
ed short fields. Miami managed a mere 33
yards rushing, 198 yards of total offense,
and only mustered a touchdown "drive" of
21 yards.
