MLB NOTES • Former Michigan pitcher Rich Hill is now with the New York Yankees, and he continues to pitch well this year de‑ spite going up and down between New York and Triple‑A Scranton Wilkes‑Barre. Hill has only pitched 4 2 ⁄3 total innings the Yankees this year over 13 games, but he's only allowed one run and has an ERA of 1.93 with eight strikeouts against five walks. • Another former U‑M pitcher, Chicago White Sox righty Zach Putnam, stood 5‑3 with a 2.04 ERA in 46 2 ⁄3 innings pitched as of Sept. 15. He'd notched 44 strikeouts against 20 walks. The NHL MIKE KOMISAREK EARNS TRYOUT WITH NEW JERSEY The New Jersey Devils have in- vited former Michigan defenseman Mike Komisarek to training camp for an unsigned tryout in September. Komisarek, who played 32 games for the Carolina Hurricanes last sea- son (zero goals, four assists, 14 pen- alty minutes), was the Montreal Ca- nadiens' first pick (seventh overall) in 2001. He's played for the Habs, Toronto Maple Leafs and Hurricanes and has notched 14 goals, 67 assists (81 points) with 679 penalty minutes in 551 career NHL games. ❏ Max Pacioretty • NHL The Montreal Canadiens will play with no captain but will utilize four alternate captains this season, and Pacioretty will be one of them. Glenn Robinson III • NBA The former Michigan forward was on the cusp of making the team in Minnesota after going to the team in the second round (40th overall). The Timberwolves were expected to move another player off the roster so they could sign him. Fitzgerald Toussaint • NFL The former Michigan running back notched a 100‑yard game in the preseason to initially make Baltimore's 53‑man roster, but he was cut before the first game.
