Despite that level of produc-
tion, scholarship attention was a
bit slower in coming for Dunaway,
thanks primarily to less-than ideal
size. Standing just 6-2 and 225
pounds, he'll have to bulk up to
make an impact on the defensive line
at the next level. He has a frame to
add weight, and though he'll likely
never have NFL-caliber height (bar-
ring a late growth spurt), his motor
and burst off the edge should see
him contribute.
Dunaway isn't the first player
from Brother Rice to move on to
Michigan, and he likely won't be
the last, either. Dunaway's younger
brother, Carter, is a tight end in the
2017 class, and is already taller than
his older brother at 6-6. With contin-
ued development, he could earn a
scholarship offer down the road.
Jack Dunaway's preferred walk-
on status means that he will not re-
ceive a scholarship offer to Michigan
out of high school, but will have a
guaranteed spot on the team, and
could earn a scholarship during his
career with strong performances on
the practice field.
"Coach [defensive coordinator
Greg] Mattison told me, 'If you
end up playing, and end up mak-
ing an impact, then we will give
y o u a s c h o l a r s h i p , ' " D u n a w a y
said. "I trust his word on that, so it
would be up to me whether I earn
a scholarship."
If he lives up to his athletic poten-
tial while adding size, Dunaway will
be well on his way. ❏
