SNOWEST OCTOBER 2014 31 At the most recent International Snowmobile Congress in Keystone, CO, International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association President Ed Klim shared some interesting survey results, along with some other informa- tion we thought we would pass along. • Average age of snowmobilers is 44 years. • 76 percent of those surveyed said their first snowmobile purchased was used. • 55 percent said they belong to a snowmobile club or association. • Average number of miles ridden last season (2013-14) was 1,620. Snowmobilers' other recreational pursuits include: camping (47 percent), boating (33 percent), ATV riding (30 percent), hiking (29 percent), other (28 percent), motorcycle riding/golfing (27 percent) and downhill skiing (19 percent) Klim once again pointed out that E15 should not be used in snow- mobiles but did talk about another product, butanol, that might be okay in snowmobiles. We're doing some research on that product and will include more about it in a future issue of SnoWest. d new customers by providing a service other dealerships do not offer. Boat and off-highway vehicle own- ers who partner with Fun2Rent offset the costs and expense of ownership while their equipment is insured for damages. Company CEO Shawn Gardner explains that his company has hun- dreds of rentals-by-owners now. "Many owners on the site earn 30-50 percent of the value of their equipment in the first year of renting," he explains. In fact, Gardner describes their insurance as the "best in the business," including liability for owners and renters plus collision coverage on equipment. In July 2014, owners on the site earned over $50,000 after Fun2Rent's nomi- nal commission fee. Peer-to-peer rental companies such as Fun2Rent have carved out an unprecedented way to offer a win-win experience for boat and power sport vehicle owners and their renters.
