Cornerback
1. Anthony Brown 9
5-11, 192, Jr.
12 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks,
2 PBU*
Brown turned in an impressive
game against the Irish, with 2.5
tackles for loss among his five
tackles. The best might have been on perfect-
ly diagnosed screen pass to a wide receiver, in
which he dodged by a blocker to get the TFL.
2. Da'Wan Hunte 2
5-9, 175, R-Fr.
Strong Safety
1. Frankie Williams 24
5-9, 189, Jr.
17 tackles, 1 int., 3 PBU*
Williams and Richards both
played significantly against the
Irish, as Purdue used primarily
a five-man defensive backfield.
That put Williams at the nickel and he did well
with eight tackles and a breakup. Richards,
who played his first game of the season last
week, gives Purdue added athleticism.
2. Taylor Richards 4
5-10, 196, Sr.
Free Safety
1. Landon Feichter 44
6-0, 192, Sr. (5)
23 tackles, 0.5 TFL*
Feichter tied for the team lead
with 10 tackles against ND,
helping him keep the season
lead despite not playing in the
first half of the first game of the season. He
has a knack for coming up and making plays.
Logan is likely to be available again after miss-
ing last week with a concussion.
2. Austin Logan 5
6-0, 200, So.
Cornerback
1. Antoine Lewis 23
5-10, 185, Sr. (5)
14 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 2 PBU,
2 FF*
Lewis is solid in coverage, and
again has shown a knack for
playmaking ability, with a cou-
ple forced fumbles this season. He had one vs.
Notre Dame, giving Purdue a shot of life in the
second quarter. He also had six tackles and a
third-down pass breakup that forced a punt.
2. Leroy Clark 3
5-10, 187, So.
Rush End
1. Jalani Phillips 89
6-4, 265, Sr.
13 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1 sack*
Phillips' personal foul penalty
was bad – it was just unneces-
sary – but he atoned by having
his best game of the season,
maybe of his career. The senior
finished with seven tackles, 1.5 for loss with a
sack, and he recovered a fumble. His back-to-
back plays in the second, the sack, then the
recovery, helped give Purdue momentum.
Robinson had a sack, too.
2. Gelen Robinson 13
6-1, 239, Fr.
Strongside Linebacker
1. Jimmy Herman 29
6-4, 230, So.
4 tackles*
Herman returns this week after
missing the last two games
with a broken thumb, but how
much he plays remains to be
seen. Purdue went with five
DBs for much of its game with Notre Dame
and will likely do the same vs. SIU. Gilliam
played only five snaps against ND.
2. Joe Gilliam 39
6-1, 230, Sr. (5)
Middle Linebacker
1. Sean Robinson 10
6-3, 239, Sr. (5)
21 tackles, 2 TFL*
Darrell Hazell thought his
linebackers played their best
games in his tenure, and that's
a credit to Robinson and
Bentley. The duo combined for
19 tackles, including 2.5 for loss. Robinson had
two of those, including a nice stuff of a run-
ning back on first down in the second quarter.
2. Joe Gilliam 39
6-1, 230, Sr. (5)
Weakside Linebacker
1. Ja'Whaun Bentley
35
6-2, 250, Fr.
18 tackles, 0.5 TFL, 1 int., 1 PBU*
Bentley had made some big
plays in the first couple of
weeks, but had assignment
errors, too, understandable for a freshman.
But against Notre Dame, he seemed to clean
some of those up and turned in a solid per-
formance. He had nine tackles and combined
with fellow frosh Gelen Robinson for a goal-
line TFL.
2. Danny Ezechukwu 36
6-2, 246, R-Fr.
Defensive End
1. Ryan Russell 99
6-5, 273, Sr.
11 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU*
Three times Russell hurried ND quarterback
Everett Golson, which is a positive. The nega-
tive, however, is that Golson too frequently
turned those pressures into yards by escap-
ing the pocket. Russell needs not to over-pursue, especially
against athletic QBs; it allowed Golson to break free for his TD
at the end of the first half.
2. Evan Panfil 95
6-4, 251, So.
Nose Tackle
1. Ra'Zahn Howard 14
6-3, 323, So.
6 tackles*
Watson got the start against the Fighting Irish,
but Howard got more snaps. They both were
productive, finishing with three tackles each.
Howard had his best game of the season, being
active not only near the line but away from it. One of his tack-
les came 14 yards downfield.
2. Ryan Watson 92
6-2, 291, Jr.
Defensive Tackle
1. Jake Replogle 54
6-5, 269, So.
7 tackles, 1 TFL*
Replogle had his first tackle for loss of the
season, when he and Jalani Phillips hit a Notre
Dame running back behind the line of scrim-
mage. Later, he hurried Golson into an incom-
plete pass on third down, setting up a Notre Dame field goal.
Rouse didn't play for the first time this season.
2. Michael Rouse III 97
6-4, 314, Jr.
