GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 6 • 16
Quarterback
1. Danny Etling 5
6-2, 218, So.
89-of-162 for 800 yards,
6 TDs / 5 int.*
33 rushes, minus-5 yards,
3 TDs*
Because Purdue had not yet
announced a starter for Illinois, Etling stays
No. 1 on the depth chart. But as of Wednesday
a lot of signs pointed toward Appleby making
his first career start. The sophomore had taken
all of Purdue's No. 1 reps in team periods dur-
ing practice for two straight days.
2. Austin Appleby 12
6-5, 229, So.
Wide receiver
1. Danny Anthrop
33
6-0, 191, Jr.
18 rec., 237 yards, 2 TDs*
Anthrop has been
Purdue's most consis-
tent threat in the pass-
ing game and had a career-high six
receptions, although they went for
only 33 yards, last week. Now, he'll
move inside to the slot when Knauf is
in the game. Freshman Trae Hart is an
option to play more this week, too.
2. Cameron Posey 18
6-1, 182, So.
Center
1. Robert Kugler 57
6-3, 298, Jr.
Kugler's not practicing this
week as he recovers from a
glute strain suffered late in the
loss to Iowa. But on Wednesday,
he felt he was on pace to play
at Illinois. Darrell Hazell lists him
as probable. If he doesn't go, however, Cermin
will start at center, and freshman Kirk Barron,
who is redshirting, could get snaps.
2. Cameron Cermin 66
6-5, 303, So.
Right Guard
1. Jordan Roos 70
6-4, 312, So.
Roos has made big strides
for the Boilermakers this
season, becoming a much
more reliable player at right
guard. Seemingly that's made
Purdue's interior three linemen
a pretty consistent group.
2. Corey Clements 71
6-8, 400, Jr.
Right Tackle
1. J.J. Prince 73
6-6, 302, So.
Prince hasn't been quite as good
as what was hoped at the start of
the season, as he's struggled a bit
against quick moves on the edge.
Purdue, in general, had trouble
with Iowa's twisting front. And now, he's dealing
with a bit of a shoulder injury, too, although it didn't
cost him many repetitions in practice. Cermin will
play here too, if he doesn't have to play center.
2. Cameron Cermin 66
6-5, 303, So.
Wide receiver
1. B.J. Knauf 83
5-10, 187, So.
7 rec., 71 yards*
Purdue wants to get Knauf
more involved again after he's
played only sparingly the last
two weeks since coming back
from an injury. Why? He can
make plays with the ball in his hands, and with
a struggling offense, the Boilermakers need
more of that.
2. Danny Anthrop 33
6-0, 191, Jr.
Wide Receiver
1. DeAngelo Yancey 7
6-2, 218, So.
7 rec., 87 yards, 2 TDs*
Purdue's issues are two-fold (or
maybe more): Its quarterbacks
can't get the ball to the perim-
eter accurately, and its receiv-
ers can't get enough separa-
tion outside the hashes. Yancey included. The
wide receiver was targeted nearly a handful of
times, yet couldn't connect with Danny Etling.
In fact, none were even very close.
2. Gregory Phillips 13
6-0, 190, Fr.
Tight End
1. Gabe Holmes 86
6-5, 258, Sr.
6 rec., 44 yards, 1 TD*
Again, Purdue's not finding
its tight ends. Holmes had a
prime opportunity to come
up with a big third-quarter
reception, when Purdue
needed offense, but Etling missed him badly
downfield. And Sinz, while targeted four times,
had only a catch. And a ball thrown to Dolapo
Macarthy should have been picked.
2. Justin Sinz 84
6-4, 249, Sr. (5)
Left Tackle
1. David Hedelin 75
6-4, 295, Jr.
It seemed only a matter of
time until Hedelin took over
as the No. 1 left tackle, and
it comes this week. But, he's
played far from perfectly,
struggling to keep the pocket
open due to Iowa's twisting on the edges. He'll
be learning on the job.
2. Cameron Cermin 66
6-5, 303, So.
Left Guard
1. Jason King 72
6-3, 309, So.
Purdue's rushing game was
pretty good, considering the
Hawkeyes were so geared up
to stop it. The Boilermakers
finished with 126 yards (before
the sack yardage was taken
out), on 30 carries, many of those coming in
the A and B gaps up the middle.
2. Jason Tretter 76
6-6, 304, R-Fr.

Running Back
1. Akeem Hunt 1
5-9, 183, Sr.
45 rushes, 285 yards, 1 TD*
18 rec., 103 yards*
Hunt had a good day, probably the only
Purdue offensive player who could claim
one, with 90 yards rushing on 14 carries.
He ran hard. But the question was, where was Mostert?
After being Purdue's starter the first four weeks, he didn't
play a single offensive snap. Look for him more this week.
