GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 6 • 28 BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com K yle Orton is ready to lead the Bills. On Wednesday, the veteran QB talked to Buffalo media for the first time since being named starter over EJ Manuel and was asked why he'll run the Bills' offense better. "Not saying that I will," Orton re- sponded, according to ESPN.com "I mean, that's a loaded question. That's a crap question." But Orton's teammates have no- ticed a difference, saying the former Boilermaker has brought a different approach to practice this week. "(Orton) demands what he wants out of us," wide receiver Sammy Wat- kins told ESPN.com. "He's more of a veteran guy. The way he talked, the way he handles business, the way he looks at plays and breaks down defenses, it's kind of different than EJ. "He reads it quicker, the ball is coming out faster. That's just some things that we have to adjust to." Wide receiver Rob- ert Woods has noticed the same. "His directness in the huddle," he said to ESPN, "telling us what to look for and be ready for when we're breaking the huddle when he calls the play." Orton was named the starter af- ter Manuel was ineffective in back-to- back losses after Buffalo had started 2-0. In a loss last week at Houston, Manuel threw for only 225 yards on 44 passes, completing 21, with two touchdowns and two picks. And, ana- lysts say, he's missing open receivers. It's a rapid climb for Orton, who had forced his release from Dallas in training camp. According to a report from ESPN's Ed Werder, there were a couple reasons Orton wanted out of Dallas: He had a sour relationship with starter Tony Romo and was wary of a power struggle on the offense. SPENCER BACK After 17 games on the sideline, Anthony Spencer returned to the field for Dallas on Sunday night and played well. In 22 defensive snaps, the de- fense end had three tackles and hurried quarterback Drew Brees in a Cowboys' win over the Saints. "I felt pretty good (Monday)," Spencer told the Dallas News. "I was able to lift, I did some moving around, so I felt fine." Spencer had been sidelined since having knee surgery a year ago. He's hoping he can gradually increase his playing time, perhaps getting up to 25 to 30 snaps on Sunday vs. Houston. "It's coming back," he said. "The more I do it, the more explosive I feel." j Orton Ready To Take The Reins In Buffalo Buffalo Bills Kyle Orton will start for the Bills on Sunday, after being named the starter over E.J. Manuel.
