"I know as a parent what those restrictions do to your child," Erler says. "I fully understand. I know what it's been like for my son. It just makes them happy to have something as simple as a cupcake." Feeling like everyone else while dining out with dietary restrictions is at the heart of why so many North Shore restaurants are going out of their way to create specially marked menus and delicious dishes for diners. No one wants to feel strange or singled out when they're out to dinner. "They don't want to feel weird,'" McDonough says.
