24 Winter Street | Newburyport, MA 01950 978.255.4341 | www.andiamo-restaurant.com A Passion for Good Food "My kitchen is like every f amily kitchen I visited in Italy–filled with fresh basil and homemade mozzarella, sauce cooking slowly on the stove, meatballs simmering, ravioli being rolled by hand and focaccia warm and steamy from the oven. "I learned how to make the perfect pasta in Italy. My v ision is to serve it to you. Come, savor the traditional foods of the old country with us." Jim Rogers, Chef-Owner, Andiamo Restaurant + Bar what the Yee family promises (and delivers). • 946 Osgood Street, North Andover, 01845, (978) 682-2242, china-blossom.com. $ MAKI SUSHI BAR Clean, fresh flavors define Maki meals. Each plate presents a kaleidoscope of colors, textures, and shapes. Co-owner/chef John Nguyen grew up on the Gulf coast. A life- time spent with shrimp (the family business), means the man knows seafood. Masterpieces like his Tempura Striped Bass topped with Kiwi and Strawberry in a Sweet Chili Sauce, make Ngyuen king of this artful cuisine. • 43 Main Street, Peabody, 01960, (978) 854-5426, makisushibar.net. $$ OKEA GRILL & SUSHI Healthy, fast, and super tasty—that's how to describe what comes out of Okea's kitchen. Popular with area students for it's great "brain food," it is celebrated by locals who appreciate friendly service, reasonable prices, and creativity, and extremely fresh sushi. Chef/owner Fawn Lei Sandler has earned acclaim as a notable sushi savant. • 293 Jefferson Ave, Salem, 01970, (978) 607-0060, okeagrill.com. $ SU CHANG'S Su Chang's, the North Shore's pre- miere Cantonese restaurant, offers classic Chinese dishes enlivened with Canton's hallmark flavors. The coastal region is famous for its Pearl River and South China Sea seafood, as well as its splendid sauces. Su Chang's light, healthy fare and bright interior make it popular with mai tai-sipping patrons who value China's unique culinary delights. • 373 Lowell Street, Peabody, 01960, (978) 531-3366, suchangspeabody.com. $$ WAGAMAMA What began in Bloomsbury, London, has made its way to MarketStreet in Lynnfield. This contemporary twist on a Japanese ramen bar promises speedy and perfectly seasoned noodle dishes every time. From small plates to curry dishes to donburi and chili dishes, there is no shortage of interesting meal or small-bite options. Thirsty? Try one of their super green and zesty juices. "Fresh, fast, and fun" is the Wagamama motto, and they deliver exactly that. • 1200 Market Street, Lynnfield, 01940, (781) 587-0553, wagamama. us. $$ CAFÉ / BISTRO 15 WALNUT One of the many fun things to order at 15 Walnut is the antipasto, which is a medley of colors, textures, and flavors presented on a fine, handcrafted cutting board. Local Gloucester haddock is another reason to pop in and grab a menu, as are the umpteen crazy cocktails that are constantly being churned out from the bar. Truth is, this funky little bistro is full of memorable goodies (the Molten Chocolate Cake springs to mind). The reviews are in, and they have a whole lot of stars attached to them. • 15 Walnut Road, South Hamilton, 01982, (978) 468-2434, 15walnut. com. $$$ ALCHEMY TAPAS & BISTRO According to the buzz, downtown Gloucester's Alchemy is "suburban chic." With multiple seating options including The Mafia Table, Brick Room, Community and Tapas Tables, and a room dubbed "The Cave"—its creators have evoked the spirit of a bohemian café.
