GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 7 • 30 fense, had to better grasp his responsibilities. So, he did. He watched film of himself and opposing defenses. The results showed up in the spring when he hardly had any missed assignments, and it's continued during the season, espe- cially now that he's been giving more oppor- tunity to play. Last season, Hunt had 464 rushing yards. This season in six games, he has 446, includ- ing a career-high 177 last week against Illinois. "I gained a whole lot of knowledge, es- pecially in the defensive front," Hunt said of his offseason. "So I know where the cuts are going to be, where the holes are going to be, just studying how different three-technique (tackles) and defensive ends play the game and knowing where they will be the whole time, that's helping me with my reads. "I'm just trusting in the coaches, that they will put me in the right positions at the right times. I'm just taking advantage of every op- portunity I get." NEW LOOK For the second time this season, Purdue revealed a tweaked helmet design this week. The Boilermakers will wear their matte black helmets against Michigan State Satur- day with a twist. The motion P decal and the stripe will be a neon yellow color. The stripe also transitions into a ribbon at the back of the helmet, and the words "Hammer Down Cancer" are at the base of the helmet. "It's our way of showing our support for all those cancer survivors," Hazell said. Purdue will wear the new-look helmets with white jerseys and white pants. Players will wear other neon accent pieces, including socks, shoelaces and wristbands. Earlier this season, Purdue swapped out its nor - mal motion P for a "selfie" decal that included hun- dreds of images of fans.
