22 Issue 67 / 2014 DRUM & BASS / DUBSTEP guestlist.net Jeroen Snik, otherwise known as Icicle, has proven he can turn his hand to anything whether that be dubstep when it was in it's hay-day, techno or D&B and "The edge" does nothing other than convince us of his talent. With aggressive vocals and a minimilist but hard hitting beat, this track takes you in your mind to a grimey underground club at four in the morning and the dark surging melody would be more than suited to that enviroment. TRACK OF THE MONTH ICICLE - THE EDGE (FT. METROPOLIS) ALBUM OF THE MONTH S.P.Y - BACK TO BASICS CHAPTER TWO Icicle has been attracting a lot of attention, even more so with this track. After the release of "Back to Basics Chapter One" in just April, S.P.Y comes back with the second half of the mayhem. Obviously not suf- fering a creative drought, the latter side of the Back To Basics saga proved to be just as inviting as the first. It contains the same dark pacey rhythms that showed a new creative side to the Brazilian-born producer, along collaborations with the soulful tone that is Di- anne Charlamagne. Tracks like "Scruffy burger" and "Manicured Reality" con- tinue the aggressive jump- up element shown in the first chapter while "Double Trouble" is much more at- mospheric complete with echoing samples. The second installment is definitely just as good. Tom Mundell has been releasing records since 2007 and avid fans of his are glad he's been doing it ever since. He switched from Viper Recordings after producing three EPs, to sign exclusively for Hospital Records, and he is now due to release his highly anticipated debut album, "Uni- versal Language", later in the year. In the meantime how- ever, he is to release two tracks this month of which can't help but be considered album teasers. The first "Human again" is much like many of his other tracks that make his sound so recognisable. It involves a simple yet sweet ath- emic sound topped with some feel-good positive vocals by long-time collabator Jan Burton. While "Slipstream", although still with the simple but attractive melodies that Metrik delivers, appears a little more experimental with a lot of off key crazy sounds that tend to keep you guessing. Metrik along with these tunes is undoubtedly one to watch this month. ARTIST OF THE MONTH METRIK Ahead of the release of his debut album, Metrik is releasing a teaser of a single mid-way through this month.
