34 Issue 67/ 2014 REGGAE / DANCE HALL guestlist.net UB40 are one of the greatest british reggae's band and have performed for more than 30 years now. They have sold more than 70 million records worldwide with songs like Kingston Town, I Got You Babe and Red, Red Wine. Ali, Astro and Mickey, the three founding members are currently going through a huge world tour, which the fans have been asking for years, playing all their hits and new tracks from their forthcoming album Silhouette. They will be at IndigO2 on December 20th. A real huge and unmissable event. NEW RELEASES EVENT PREVIEW CYMANDE Bruce Springsteen's 7th album, Born In The USA, was 1985's best selling album. Standing in blunt juxtaposition to its broodingly acoustic predecessor, Nebraska, the al- bum's slick pop-natured sound rivals Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' for producing 7 top ten singles. Two years later, and the seismic tremors of the album's success had settled down, Springsteen had returned from his worldwide barn- storming arena tour and was keeping a low profile in his native Garden State of New Jersey. During this period, be- fore seriously re-entering the spotlight with 1987's heart- felt and introspective Tunnel of Love, Springsteen made a number of small live appearances, the true nature of which would remain a mystery for most until now. Collaborating with roots act Jah Love, the unlikely partnership treated audiences to reggae renditions of My Hometown and Born in the USA. Previously the preserve of bloodhound boot- leggers or housed in the memories of those lucky enough to be in attendance, a soundboard of the set has some- how, mercifully, found its way online for all to finally enjoy. These recordings find The Boss sounding as comfortable and candid as ever, offering an arguably clearer platform for the often misunderstood message of Born in the USA. The technological age's apparent preoccupation with in- formation, means that no such event will ever have to go undocumented by a shaky camera phone again. But with the release of Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series: Basement Tapes due in November, it seems we can look forward to further resurrection of heretofore dormant recordings, casting new light on even our most comprehensively chronicled performers. The music pioneers Cy- mande emerged as inno- vators of the black-British music scene during the early 1970s, has come out with Cymande created with a new and exciting sound captivating audiences throughout the UK, USA, Europe and the continent of Africa. Cymande's mu- sic has been sampled by a proliferation of successful artists, they have accumu- lated a faithful cult follow- ing. They will perform at Band on the Wall on Octo- ber 10th.
