MICHIGAN IN THE PROS of took it too far with what I was trying to say. I wasn't trying to get anyone to feel sorry for me. I wasn't trying to be controversial or anything like that. I was just trying to keep it real. "As a rookie in the NBA, you're going to get attacked on the court, you see that tonight. People make a point to go at me. It has a lot to do with reputation and kind of the ste‑ reotypes of what your game is. "People look at me, and obviously, I'm not the best defender in the world, so people are going to make a point to go at me and try to attack me as much as they can. That's really what I was trying to say." Stauskas notched 12 points in his NBA preseason opener, going 4 of 8 from the floor (2 of 5 from long range) in a 99‑94 loss at Toronto Oct. 5. He followed up with 13 points (5 of 6 from the field and 2 of 2 from three‑ point range) in a 113‑106 win over the Raptors Oct. 7, but was held to four points (2‑of‑6 shooting) in 21 minutes of a 97‑95 loss to Brooklyn Oct. 12. He scored nine against the Nets Oct. 15, but was later diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis and missed a preseason game with San Antonio Oct. 20. He was listed as day to day going forward. • The New York Knicks' Tim Hard‑ away Jr., a former teammate at Mich‑ igan, talked about Stauskas' game with Slam Magazine. "His work ethic was the greatest I'd ever seen in college," he said. "Professional is a totally different ballgame. You've got guys who are constantly working out throughout the summer, not taking days off. I was saying that I've never seen that from a college player. "Now that you're a professional, you really get to see how people work very, very hard. And that's not only on the basketball court …" Hardaway scored 18 points in his first preseason game, a 106‑86 loss at Boston Oct. 8, and followed with 11 in a 96‑80 win over the Celtics Oct. 11. He put up 13 in 20 minutes, making both of his triples, in an 84‑77 victory at Philadelphia Oct. 14. • Former Wolverine Jamal Craw‑ ford had an impressive second half in a 119‑114 loss to Portland Oct. 12, scoring 12 consecutive Los Ange‑ les Clippers points in less than two minutes to start the fourth quarter. That reduced Portland's lead from 14 points to five, but Los Angeles fell short. Crawford finished with a game‑ high 23 points on 8‑of‑13 shooting, including 6 of 8 from beyond the three‑point line. He then scored 25 points in a 101‑97 win over Utah Oct. 17 and 23 in a 104‑93 loss to Den‑ ver the following night, going 9 of 14 from three‑point range in the two games. • Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Glenn Robinson III scored six points, dished three assists and grabbed two rebounds in 12 minutes of a 103‑90 loss to Indiana Oct. 7. He scored four points in each of his next two games, a 105‑98 loss to Milwaukee Oct. 17 and a 112‑94 win over Oklahoma City Oct. 19. ❏
