ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 25, ISSUE 2 69 f "I think she can be one of the top players in the Big Ten and get on an All-America list," Versyp said. "Her numbers were phenomenal last year. I didn't start her because she got into foul trouble and hadn't played in three years, but she's go- ing to start now. … Everyone knows she's it; her teammates know we are going to get her the ball. There are amazing possibilities for her." Bays could play a more on the perimeter this season, for a couple reasons: It would give the Boilermakers a long, athletic scorer on the wing, which they've lacked in recent seasons, and Pur- due has the luxury because it has more depth in- side. Clemons returns in the post after averaging 9.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season, one that was filled with personal tumult after the death of her fiancé in October 2013. The veterans will be buoyed by a trio of freshmen bigs, in center Bree Horrocks (6-5) and forwards Erica Moore (6-2) and Haley Bodnar (6-3). Although Bodnar is out until mid-December with a stress fracture in her foot that required surgery in August, Purdue's frontcourt is much deeper than a year ago. That's even after the sur- prise mid-summer transfer of center Camille Redmon, who took advantage of the fifth-year graduate rule and landed at Boise State, where she'll play her final season. There are minutes to be had, as long as the rookies acclimate to the Big Ten quickly. "The first thing to learn is what to expect, and in practice, I feel like they'll learn that," Bays said. "The physicality of the game, when we're going through it Tom Campbell Hayden Hamby frequently deferred to others during her first two seasons in West Lafayette, but she won't be able to do that now. Purdue needs her to score. www.MeetYouAtArnis.com LAFAYETTE • INDIANAPOLIS • GREENWOOD Visit one of our 18 Indiana locations Meet You At Arni's TM Celebrates Purdue's Student-Athletes SERVING BOILER FANS FOR 50 YEARS World Famous Pizza, Salads, Sandwiches Dezwan Polk-Campbell Redshirt Freshman, Major in Law and Society Polk-Campbell, a safety from Columbus Ohio, was one of 47 players on the Boilermaker football team to make coach Darrell Hazell's "A-Players" list for the spring. Players can qualify for the list, which was originated from Hazell's decree of "A Players Must Get A's" by getting a 3.0 average or better for the semester. The Boilermakers had 40 players make the list in the fall. The team posted a 2.78 GPA for the spring, up from a 2.65 in the fall, and improved its cumulative GPA to 2.77, up from 2.75 prior to the spring semester. It is the highest team GPA for football in at least 20 years.
