WOONSOCKET – Lepine Financial Advisors defeated Village Haven for the Field of Dreams Senior Softball League championship last week at Cold Spring Park's Baldelli Field by rallying for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to produce an 11-8 tri- umph in the title game. Down by an 8-6 score, Lepine battled back in its half of the sixth on singles by Russ Taylor and Gus Bucci, a walk to Bill Mohamed, a base hit by John Duarte, and doubles by Geno Roy and Tom Lydon, and then shut down Village Haven in the top of the sev- enth to clinch the title. Lydon finished the game with a single and his sixth- inning double, and Jerry Turgeon and John Stevens also contributed two hits each. Lepine also received solid defense from Roy at shortstop and Stevens at first base. Village Haven received three hits each from Lou Tomaselli, who also doubled in the game, Roger Roy and Brian McCourt. NORTH SMITHFIELD – Stanley Tree captured the North Smithfield Youth Soccer Association's Henry M. Fernandes Cup for the U14/ U16 division on Saturday after- noon by defeating MFL USA in the title match, 5-2. The final scoring champions for the U14/U16 division were Justin Decelles (U14 boys), Meredith Parsons (U14 girls), Gabby Fernandes (U16 girls), and Ryan Deslauriers (U16 boys). In the other divisions, several teams brought out their best soccer as the NSYSA's fall rec- reational regular season came to a close. Stanley Tree Service wins NSYSA's fall rec league's U14/U16 title WARWICK – Mount St. Charles Academy 8th-grader Tristan Cox was sixth out of 221 runners on Saturday morn- ing at the middle school state championship meet at Goddard Park. Cox covered the 3K (1.86- mile) course in a 10:48.9 time. Only 2.6 seconds separated him from the fourth-place finish. Cox was also fourth in last year's state meet in 11:05.3.
