Cornerback
1. Anthony Brown 9
5-11, 192, Jr.
38 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks,
8 PBU*
Brown's developed into a good
cornerback, maybe even better
than that. Against Minnesota,
he continued to come up with big plays, once
forcing Leidner back inside on a goal-line run,
then coming up with two third-down pass
deflections. He's regularly been an impactful
player.
2. Leroy Clark 3
5-10, 187, So.
Strong Safety
1. Frankie Williams 24
5-9, 189, Jr.
59 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1 sack, 3 int.,
7 PBU, 1 FR*
Williams had a pass breakup
to go with his eight tackles,
yet Purdue struggled to slow
down Minnesota's play-action passing game,
especially in the third quarter. He has sat a bit
during the last two weeks of practice, using
the bye to heal up.
2. Robert Gregory 7
6-1, 216, So.
Free Safety
1. Taylor Richards 4
5-10, 196, Sr.
26 tackles, 3 PBU*
Richards started over Feichter
vs. Minnesota for a couple
reasons: Purdue thought he'd
be better in the passing game
and Feichter has a mild back injury. Although
Richards had10 tackles, he twice bit on play-
action in the third quarter and had a devastat-
ing fourth quarter penalty. If healthy, Feichter
could be back in vs. Nebraska.
2. Landon Feichter 44
6-0, 192, Sr. (5)
Cornerback
1. Antoine Lewis 23
5-10, 185, Sr. (5)
25 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 4 PBU,
2 FF*
Hunte started against the
Gophers after Lewis had fallen
out of favor the week before.
But Hunte's debut – he'd played only sparingly
previously – wasn't productive enough to play
more than three series. Lewis finished with a
tackle; Hunte had two. Hunte didn't practice
early this week with an apparent injury.
2. Leroy Clark 3
5-10, 187, So.
Rush End
1. Jalani Phillips 89
6-4, 265, Sr.
22 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1 sack, 1 FR*
A few times against the
Gophers, Phillips appeared to
bite in hard on the dive part of
Minnesota's zone-read, taking
the running back instead of
staying outside. Perhaps he was supposed to
sometimes, but on at least a couple snaps, he
left a gaping hole on the outside.
2. Gelen Robinson 13
6-1, 239, Fr.
Strongside Linebacker
1. Jimmy Herman 29
6-4, 230, So.
28 tackles, 0.5 TFL*
Herman combined with Danny
Ezechukwu for one of Purdue's
biggest stops, when they took
down Mitch Leidner for a one-
yard loss on a third-and-goal
from the 2 in the third quarter. The hold –
Purdue gave up a field goal – kept the Boilers
up 31-29. Herman had eight tackles.
2. Dezwan Polk-Campbell 6
6-3, 212, R-Fr.
Middle Linebacker
1. Ja'Whaun Bentley
35
6-2, 250, Fr.
47 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1 int., 1 PBU,
2 FR*
Bentley had a tremendous play
on Minnesota's fake two-point
conversion attempt, when he
shed a blocker and collided with the Gopher
kicker just outside the goal line. Bentley also
had five defensive tackles and recovered a
fumble.
2. Garrett Hudson 16
6-3, 230, R-Fr.
Weakside Linebacker
1. Danny Ezechukwu
36
6-2, 246, R-Fr.
19 tackles, 2.0 TFL, 0.5 sacks,
1 FF*
Coaches say Ezechukwu has
played well since moving into
the starting lineup after Sean Robinson's
injury, and against Minnesota he had a career-
high 10 tackles, 1.5 for loss. Plus, he caused
a fumble when he stripped a ball away from
Cobb.
2. Andy James Garcia 42
6-0, 217, So.
Defensive End
1. Ryan Russell 99
6-5, 273, Sr.
27 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 sacks, 1 PBU*
Russell had six tackles against the Gophers,
seemingly playing Minnesota's zone-read
offense better than others on Purdue's line.
Russell's playing with a higher motor this sea-
son; two of his tackles came after he chased a runner more
than 10 yards down field.
2. Evan Panfil 95
6-4, 251, So.
Nose Tackle
1. Ra'Zahn Howard 14
6-3, 323, So.
14 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU*
Howard had four tackles against the Gophers,
yet Purdue was gashed repeatedly up the
middle by David Cobb and Co., frequently
when the defensive line was pushed off the
ball. Watson had a tackle.
2. Ryan Watson 92
6-2, 291, Jr.
Defensive Tackle
1. Jake Replogle 54
6-5, 269, So.
19 tackles, 5 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU*
Replogle had a couple tackles, including one
in which he shed a Minnesota blocker to pull
down Cobb in the backfield. It was one of only
three tackles for loss by the Boilermakers on
the day. But he, like the rest of the line, often struggled against
the rush.
2. Ryan Watson 92
6-2, 291, Jr.
