GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 9 • 29 BY GOLD AND BLACK STAFF R aheem Mostert's final season has had plenty of ups and downs on of- fense, but he's continued to be consistent on special teams. And, now, he's nearing a record. Mostert needs 92 kick- off return yards to break Dorien Bryant's all-time record. Bryant had 2,125 from 2004-07, and Mo- stert's 476 this season pushed him past current teammate Akeem Hunt and edged toward Bryant. "I know the number," Mostert said Wednesday eve- ning. "They've been telling me. And my girlfriend's mother has been telling me, too, 'Raheem, you need to go get it. Let's get it this week.' I'm like, 'Don't worry, it's coming. If not this week, then next week.' I just have to be pa- tient. I'm excited, really excited." There's a chance Mostert will break the record against Nebras- ka Saturday. Eight times during his career, Mostert has had at least 96 re- turn yards in a game. Twice this season — the last two games — he's had 100-plus. Twice in his career, he's had 100-yard returns in his career. "That's the ideal that (it all) comes in the first return," said Mostert, whose long return this season is 41 yards. "But you nev- er know. You never know when it's your day, so I've just got to continue to get better, read my reads like I do with everything else." Players can qualify for the list, which was originated from Hazell's decree of "A Players Must Get A's" by getting a 3.0 average or better for the semester. The Boilermakers had 40 players make the list in the fall. The team posted a 2.78 GPA for the spring, up from a 2.65 in the fall, and improved its cumulative GPA to 2.77, up from 2.75 prior to the spring semester. It is the highest team GPA for football in at least 20 years.
