THE NEXT THREE Nov. 8, vs. Wisconsin The Badgers head to Rut- gers this weekend to take on the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers might be without its starting quarterback Gary Nova, who suffered a knee injury in a 42-24 loss at Nebraska. Nova took reps at practice on Wednes- day but is still questionable for Saturday. For the Badgers, Melvin Gor- don, who ranks fourth nationally in rushing with 1,168 yards, faces a Rutgers defense that gives up almost 30 points per game. Last week, the Badgers throt- tled Maryland 52-7 at home. The visitors' only points came with 57 seconds left to play. The Bad- IN THE OPPOSITE CORNER Comments from the last and next opposing coaches: Minnesota coach Jerry Kill "It was a wild game. Tons of adversity and tons of different kind of situations. We came in at halftime and I visited with the kids and I said, 'Hey, listen. Good teams find a way to win. We are going to find out about your character and we are going to find out if you are a good team.' "We came out and did good things in the second half, and we overcame adversity. "We had some mental breakdowns on the defensive side of the ball and a couple of kicking game errors which we are not used to and (Purdue) had a lot of speed." Nebraska coach Bo Pelini "I think (Purdue is a) well-coached football team who has gotten better. You watch where they were a year ago compared to now and it's like night and day, which doesn't surprise me. Darrell Hazell is a heckuva coach and they have some really good coaches on that staff. (John) Shoop over there on of - fense has been around for a long time is a really good coach. They do a good job de- fensively. "It's a pro- gram that's on the rise. I think they're going to continue to get better." Scot Bruhn, Nebraska Bo Pelini is impressed with how improved Purdue is after four weeks of the Big Ten season.
