Tom Shorterz has seen his profile rise recently with gigs as far afield as Canada. As a DJ, he jams together a wide variety of genres; as a producer he creates a very bass- focussed house style that gets a hugely positive reaction from the crowd. He has become a favourite at the Rainbow Complex in his home city of Birmingham, playing at a va- riety of events there including his acclaimed 02:31 after- hours party. Shorterz also takes to the airwaves with his own radio show on Rinse FM on Wednesday night/Thurs- day morning at 1-3am. With some big platforms, the only way is up for this producer set to be a regular at events - and on the airwaves - across the country for years to come! A definite one to watch! Onno has created an absolute beast of a tune which we are positive will smash it in the clubs. The house banger has been released on Riva Starr's Snatch! Records and has gained support than none other than Carl Cox and Loco Dice among others. The versatility of the track is such that it is great for warm-up sets, but would work equally well dropped in at 'peak times'. Its vocal sample and sneaky hook grab your attention, and an energetic bassline keeps you nodding along for the entirety. This is definitely a tune that will get stuck in your head, although not in an annoying way. ALBUM OF THE MONTH SAM PAGANINI - SATELLITE OUR PLAYLIST The Bells (Part One) Richy Ahmed Calabria (Firebeatz Remix) Rune RK Exceeder (UMEK & Mike Vale Remix) Mason Piano Weapon Shadow Child & Doorly Here's the house/techno on our playlist this month ARTIST OF THE MONTH TOM SHORTERZ Italian techno don Sam Pa- ganini manages to find the time - even with his busy touring schedule which fea- tured the likes of Berghain and Cielo - to release his de- but LP on none other than the foremost international techno outlet, Drumcode. Being an active member of the international techno scene since the mid nine- ties, Paganini knows what techno should be, and dem- onstrates this perfectly with his album, Satellite. A mish-mash of upfront industrial techno and heavy party groovers character- izes most on the LP, with a few experimental tracks thrown in for good mea- sure. The opening track sets the tone of the album; a surreal, galactic, almost alien-like feel. Once you get to track 2 you'll be taken straight-out-of-this-world with a non-stop beat that you can't help but tap your foot to. Throughout the al- bum one can sense Paga- nini's playfulness, aiming to mess with clubbers' heads Tracks like 'Toxic', and 'Lo- tus' are super hard-hitting, we could hear them going down a treat in warehouses everywhere. For the more mellow and atmospheric tracks, 'Down' and 'Another Chance' are fantastic exam- ples of set-starter fodder. Stripping it down another level, the house tracks Silver Panorama and Sunflower provide languid Sunday morning bliss, nothing too intense - just a perfect sonic blend. Paganini has created an album that essentially 'covers all the bases', al- though somehow manag- ing to keep his distinctive style intact.
