to become really creative in
capturing new markets. Because
we realize that after three or four
budget cycles, a lot of those
corporations aren't plugging those
dollars back in for retreats and off-
site meetings. That's been a big
change. I don't think that's going
to change back anytime soon if
ever. So we're going to have to
reinvent ourselves and find new
markets or create new markets."
Get involved
Hicks urges all fellow
superintendents to serve in golf
chapters.
He's a former past president of
the Inland Empire Chapter of the
GCSA and the Idaho GCSA.
"The local chapter is where
we can really make the most
impact as far as superintendents
giving back to the industry and
helping the new generation of
superintendents and assistants
come up through the ranks and
learn how to do things," Hicks
said. "I've always had a really
strong connection to the local
chapter level. I served on the
board in Arizona on the Cactus
and Pine Association before I
moved to Idaho.
"I really felt a pretty strong pull
to serve and just would encourage
anybody that's involved to get
more involved. It's rewarding. I
wish more people would be willing
to serve." WT
