It wouldn't be a ques- tion for me to put on more weight and carry that around. "It gives me more strength, makes it harder to be pushed off the ball, more mass, more power. It would just help me be in the gap that I need to be in." But even more than size, it's technique that'll help Replogle improve. He's already fixed, or at least taken significant steps to do so, his footwork, which got all crossed up as a freshman. And he's working on his hands, how to use them to get offensive linemen from locking him up. But Replogle's energy out - put is always the same, and that's good. "Jake is one of those guys who is going to give you the same ef- fort in the fourth quarter, the last play, that he's going to give you the first quarter, the first play," se- nior defensive end Ryan Russell said. "It's his edge, especially at a position where you tend to have a lot of bigger guys who can get tired more easily or can get run down. … His energy and intensity that he brings every single play is definitely a big thing that helps him stand out." But Russell says he sees even brighter days ahead for Replogle, because he can see his younger teammate taking steps every day. "He's really young, so there's a high ceiling for him to get bet - ter," Russell said. "But the fact that he's playing this well now, it's kind of — not a surprise — but you're glad this guy is coming back.
