The 6-foot-3, 215-pound pass-rusher from Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte was a late find for the Boilermaker staff, earning an offer while coaches were on the road last week for bye-week recruiting travel. "Academics were the No. 1 thing for me," Mugala said, "and with it being Big Ten football, it's the best of both worlds. It just stuck out to me. "I had other places I could have gone but they weren't in one of the most pres- tigious conferences in college football and they weren't as academically renowned as Purdue. I had family call me from (all over) and they all knew about Purdue. That was the prestige I was looking for." Mugala, who was born in Zambia but grew up in Sweden before moving to the U.S. in sixth grade, chose Purdue over of- fers from Connecticut, Navy and a host of smaller schools along with in- terest from Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and others. He becomes Purdue's 15th verbal commitment, give or take considering there are some fluid situations amongst those who have committed. Defensive end Twazanga Mugala gave Purdue its 15th verbal commitment.
