BY TTRAVIS BAUGH TBaugh@Purdue.edu No.12 Purdue is still in need of a signa- ture Big Ten victory with the con- ference slate nearly three-fourths over. The Boilermakers missed out on a golden opportunity when they were swept at No. 13 Nebraska 25-21, 25-22, 25-20 in front of the 213th consecutive sellout crowd at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, the longest streak in the history of NCAA women's athletics. "They came out with a lot of purpose and we didn't," Coach Dave Shondell told BTN after the game. Purdue got off to a solid start in Set 1, taking a 13-11 lead before a 12-2 spurt put Nebraska in control for the rest of the set and ultimately the match. The Boilermakers put up a fight in Set 2. A pair of blocks from freshman Danielle Cuttino helped jumpstart the Boilermak - ers to a 5-3 lead in a back-and- forth stanza that saw ties at 9, 16 and 20 until the Cornhusk- ers scored five of the final seven points. "I think Nebraska's playing at a high level," Shondell told BTN. "They're doing some re- ally good things. They're serving the ball very, very tough. Obvi- ously, they're blocking very well. They're taking really big swings, which we knew they would." Nebraska pulled away from a 16-15 advantage in Set 3 to score eight of the next 11 points and take a 24-18 lead before ul- timately taking the set and the BOILERS STRIKE OUT AGAIN AGAINST RANKED OPPONENT AGAIN Purdue Amanda Neill and the Boilermakers were swept at Nebraska and are still looking for a marquee victory. GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 10 • 44 KLATTE NOT RETAINED Rob Klatte will not be back next season as Purdue's soccer coach. The only coach in the program's 17-year history will not have his contract renewed, the school announced on Monday. In his 17 seasons, Klatte posted a 175-141-32 record, including 71-78-17 in the Big Ten, but the program has waned in recent sea- sons, including a 6-11-2 (2-10-1 in the Big Ten) mark this year. The Boilermakers lost nine straight games, scoring only two goals during that streak, before tying their regular-season finale. Under Klatte, the Big Ten Coach-of-the-Year in 2002 and 2007, the Boilermakers made the NCAA Tournament six times between 2002 and 2009, advancing to the Round of 16 in 2003. In 2007, the Boilermakers won a school-record 20 games and finished second in the Big Ten for the second time in three years.
