THE NEXT ONE Nov. 29, at Indiana This week, the Hoosiers head to Colum- bus, where they have not won since the Bill Mallory Era in the late 1980s. IU (3-7 overall, 0-6 Big Ten) is on a five- game losing streak and is facing an Ohio State team that is vying for a spot in the Col- lege Football Playoff. Indiana coach Kevin Wilson, in his fourth season at Indiana, takes a 5-25 Big Ten re- cord into the 'Shoe and hopes an improved defense can somehow keep the game com- petitive. Although the Hoosiers are only No. 89 in the nation in total defense (432.2 yards per game), that's actually an improvement. Indiana was No.109 in 2011, No. 106 in 2012, and No. 120 last year. Last Saturday, IU fell to Rutgers in Pis- cataway, N.J., 45- 23, eliminating the Hoosiers from bowl contention. Tevin Coleman ran for 307 yards, averaging 9.6 yards per touch, but not even his career effort was enough to give IU its first confer- ence win. Freshman quarterback Zander Diamont threw his first career touch- down and passed for a career-high 178 yards but was out- done by Gary Nova, who had 217 yards through the air and two touchdowns. Despite the 22-point score differ- ential, neither team took a two-posses- sion lead until late in the third when Rut- gers pulled ahead 31-16.
