GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 11 • 45 BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com L ast season, Purdue set a school record for free throw shooting, connecting on 78 percent of its attempts. It likely contributed to the Boil- ermakers winning 22 games. But Courtney Moses, Purdue's all-time best free throw shooter, and KK Houser, the program's 12th-best, have graduated. And through two games, the Boil- ermakers have hit only 43-of-66 free throws, just 65.2 percent. It cost Purdue in its double-over- time loss to Green Bay, when the Boil- ermakers made only 17-of-26, in- cluding a stretch in the extra sessions in which they made only 2-of-8. April Wilson could have won the game at the end of the first overtime; after making a layup, and drawing con- tact, Wilson missed the ensuing free throw with three seconds left, sending the game to the second extra session. "Just missed it," Wilson said af- terward. The Boilermakers might have been a bit fatigued in the overtime, particularly this early in the season, yet they didn't want to use it as an excuse. "You can't miss those," senior Whitney Bays said. "When the game's on the line, you step up and you make them. We learn from it now, but unfortunately, we learn with an L." Bays hit six of her 10 free throws, with her four misses com- ing in overtime. She says the Boiler- makers take 400 free throws a week, and need to hit more during critical moments. "I personally take account- ability for this game," Bays said. "As a senior, you're supposed to step up, make the free throws, the chippy shots and (Wednesday) I didn't. It hurts, it's disappointing." RANKED, UNRANKED Purdue's re-entry into the top-25 rank- ings will likely be short-lived. The Boilermakers were No. 24, in a three- way tie, in the Nov. 17 release, marking their return to the rankings after being out for the preseason. It was the first time since 2010 that Purdue had started a season un - ranked. And the Boilermakers will likely be bounced from the top- 25 following their loss to Green Bay in double overtime on Wednesday evening in Mackey Arena. j Tom Campbell April Wilson missed a free throw that would have put Purdue up one with three seconds to go vs. Green Bay at the end of the first overtime. The Boilermakers lost in double OT. 2014-15 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Date Opponent Time/Result Nov. 9 FINDLAY (exb.)
