SINDELAR INJURED Purdue quarterback commitment Elijah Sindelar sustained a torn ACL in his knee and possibly meniscus damage, he said, running for a touchdown Friday night against Murray High School, sidelining him indefinitely. The injury occurred roughly 24 hours after one of the jewels of Purdue's recruit- ing class to this point informed Boilermaker coach Darrell Hazell he'd be forsaking his fi- nal year of high school baseball, graduating early and enrolling at Purdue in January. COMMITMENT RESULTS R Running back Markell Jones: The Columbus East running back had 154 yards on 33 carries, with a touchdown, but it wasn't enough as New Palestine hit a field goal as time expired to win 30-28 in a Class 4A semistate. Jones finished the season with 3,533 rushing yards, a state record. R Sindelar: Sindelar's season came to an end, then his team's did as well, when Caldwell County (Ky.) lost 47-28 to Murray in the regional cham- pionship. Before his injury, Sindelar had thrown for a touchdown and run for another, but he was injured on the lat- ter play, during a defender's attempted tackle. Sindelar threw a touchdown in his 41st straight game, extending his Ken- tucky record. R Safety Andy Chelf: Southlake (Texas) Carroll jumped to an early lead then cruised to a 58-42 victory over Guyer in the Area Championship. Chelf made 12 tackles and broke up three passes. R Cornerback Isaac Warren: John Tyler High School beat Mansfield Sum- mit 44-27, with Warren totaling seven tackles. R Punter Joe Schopper: Cathedral won at Bloomington South in a Class 5A semi- state, 27-24 in overtime. No stats were avail- able. Cathedral plays LaPorte in Lucas Oil Stadium in the state finals Saturday. R Defensive end Twazanga Mugala: Charlotte's Ardrey Kell lost to Lake Norman in the second round of the 4AA champion- ship. Mugala had five tackles and a half sack. R Defensive end Tim Faison: Godby beat West Florida 41-6 in the 5A Regional Semifinals. Faison recorded seven tackles, including a sack. He forced two fumbles, re- covered another and broke up a pass. j Brian Neubert Recently injured Elijah Sindelar will enroll in January.
