GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 12 • 9 BY ALAN KARPICK AKarpick@GoldandBlack.com I n games like this one, with nei- ther team headed to the post- season, sometimes the victor is determined by which team wants it more. And if last week is any indica- tion, Indiana has not given up de- spite a disappointing season that has seen it drop seven straight conference games. "That was the most impres- sive thing about the game at Ohio State," said Matt Weaver, who cov- ers the Hoosiers for Peegs.com. "Indiana didn't give up after trail- ing Ohio State 14-0 in the game's opening minutes. And they easily could have." The Hoosiers rallied from the early Buckeye onslaught to score 20 unanswered points and led 20-14 with 2:17 left in the third quarter. The main reason the Hoo- siers had a pulse until well into the fourth quarter was due to its All-America caliber back Tevin Coleman. His 228 yards rushing was the most ever by a Buckeye opponent at the 'Shoe, as Cole- man continues to amaze with his uncanny ability to rip off the long run. "He's a big back, and he's fast," Purdue coach Darrell Hazell said. "When the hole is developed for him, he hits it with great veloc- ity. And, it's funny, guys take the wrong angle on this guy. I'm not sure they know how fast he re- ally is. We've got to make sure we eliminate those running lanes be- cause if you don't, that's when he becomes a really good back." Good back might be an understatement. Coleman has rushed for at least 100 yards 10 times this season and recently surpassed Vaughan Dunbar as the Hoosiers' top single-season rusher. He needs just 94 yards to surpass the 2,000-yard mark and is currently second in the nation, trail- ing only Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon. "Coach (Greg) Hudson has stressed all year, do your job, that basically means get in your gap," sophomore defen- sive tackle Jake Re- plogle said. "We've done a better job each week of stay- ing in our gaps and doing our jobs. So I think our defense is ready. He's a talent- ed guy and he's defi- nitely had a lot of yards this year, but I think our defense is ready for the chal- lenge." It will have to be. Purdue has give up a 100-yard rusher in all but four games this year, and the winner of the game Game 12 Opponent Preview: Indiana Noon ET • Memorial Stadium • TV: BTN HIGH-FLYING HOOSIER RUN GAME GREETS PURDUE IU Athletics Freshman quarterback Zander Diamont will be making his fifth career start in the Bucket game. The Hoosiers have averaged just 16.5 points per contest with Diamont at the helm. IU Athletics Junior running back Tevin Coleman could be playing his last game for the Hoosiers, having had the greatest season ever by an IU back in 2014.
