After the success of a whole host of mixtapes, he graced the cover of XXL magazine as one of the ten fresh men of the year. He was named Rookie of the Year by Source magazine and won the MTV Hottest Breakthrough MC in 2010. His list of collaborations, is as extensive as it is diverse, with artists like Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Akon, Tinie Tem- pah, Juicy J, Snoop Dogg and more. He has had no less than five Grammy nominations in 2011, and was nominated by the B.E.T for the Best New Artist. In 2012 he won the Billboard Award for the Top New Artist. He has his own line of footwear with Converse, and he is in partnership with active lifestyle brand, Neff. He has twice sold-out his headline tours and is starred in the future film 'Mac and Devin Go to High School'. He appears in the Forbes list and his hometown Pittsburg Council, have declared the 12th December to be his day. WIZ: WADDUP! I'VE NEVER MET SOMEBODY WHO HAS ACTUALLY HAD A DAY IN A CITY NAMED AFTER THEM! Yeahhh, that was really dope YEAH! THAT'S A MARK OF SUCCESS. HOW DOES THAT FEEL? It's cool. HAHA. OKAY! YOU GOT THE ALBUM BLACC HOLLYWOOD THAT'S OUT NOW BASICALLY. EVERYDAY I HAVE A DIFFERENT FAVOURITE FROM THE ALBUM MAN. OBVIOUSLY THE FOCUS SINGLE RIGHT NOW IS 'STAY UP ALL NIGHT", RELEASE ON THE 1ST DECEMBER. WAS THERE A BIT MORE PRESSURE WITH YOU HAV- ING MORE RESPONSIBILITY WITH THE ALBUM? It wasn't really more pressure it was just that I was so hands-on with this album, and focused on it coming out exactly how I wanted to. I communicated things with people that I never communi- cated. I built relationships in ways that I've never been able to do before. And in doing that, I just took the role as the executive producer of the album. So it real- ly wasn't any pressure it was just something that I kind of stepped up and did on my own. RIGHT, BUT I GET THE IMPRESSION THAT YOU'RE JUST CONTINUOUSLY WORKING, BECAUSE YOU'RE TOUR- ING, YET YOU HAD THE MIXTAPE THAT CAME OUT BEFORE THAT, '28 GRAMS'. SO A MIXTAPE JUST BE- FORE THE ALBUM, WHAT WAS THE REASON FOR THAT? Really just to keep people inter- ested, and to give them some- thing other than just the album to depend on and to have. There's moments in life, and I like, I've been blessed to be able to capi- talize and just really maximize some of the best moments that I feel when people feel. Whether that is in life or in music. And '28 Grams' was a point where I felt like the people needed that. SO IN FEBRUARY "WE DEM BOYZ' WAS OFFICIALLY RELEASED, BUT IT WAS LIKE A SLOW BURN AND THEN IN THE SUMMER, THE THING WAS TEARING UP THE PLACE. WHAT IN- SPIRATION THE LYRICS BEHIND ALL THAT? Detail produced the track and wrote the hub, and really pro- vided the foundation of what that song was. And I kind of came in and made it my own, with the verses, and just how I delivered it vocally. It does what it's sup- posed to do. We really have fun making that song and it's really fun to listen to. AND OBVIOUSLY THAT VIDEO LOOKS LIKE IT'S A DAY-IN-THE- LIFE, IS THAT YOUR NEIGHBOUR- HOOD? No that was in Atlanta. The rea- son I chose to shoot it in Atlanta was because they have a dance called the 'hold-up' dance, and knowing that the energy and how raw that sound is down there, I felt like that would be a perfect place to embody it and capture it. And it ended up being the right thing to do! WHAT IS YOU MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE AND WHAT CAN PEO- PLE EXPECT FROM THE BLACC HOL- LYWOOD TOUR? My most memorable time was Coachella with Snoop. The night before they did the 2pac holo- gram. The tour is very intimate; small venues, up close. Just real stuff for the fans. OK SO YOU HAVE A NEW SINGLE AS WELL WITH NICKI MINAJ. THAT ONE SEEMS A BIT MORE INTROSPEC- TIVE. SO WHAT'S THE CREATIVE IS- SUE BEHIND THAT TRACK? It was really just to tell people to look within themselves and find who they really are and to put that out there to the world. AND THE NEW SINGLE, "STAYING OUT ALL NIGHT" OUT ON THE 1ST DECEMBER. TELL ME A BIT ABOUT THAT ONE, AS IT'S AN INTERACTIVE VIDEO AS WELL. It's just something fun, something that I felt was a part of me. I like to go out and have a good time, literally stay out all night! RIGHT, LOOKING TO THE FUTURE NOW. WHAT ELSE IS ON THE TRACK FOR WIZ KHALIFA? I haven't really planned much past the tour. Just promoting Blacc Hollywood, videos and the tour. 7 19 Issue 69 / 2014 HIPHOP / RNB guestlist.net " There's moments in life, and I like, I've been blessed to be able to capitalize and just really maximize some of the best moments that I feel when people feel.
