ADVANCED TRAINING Additional optional training should be conducted for those power users who would like to integrate time capture into their workflows. This training should focus on more interactive ways to consume information, including drilling down or setting up rules. A simple workflow to support transmitting data from the capture environment to the time-entry environment should also be discussed. Advanced training should be offered periodically. This ensures that attorneys who have gradually increased their acceptance of time capture can make the shift to power users when they are ready. In the long run, around 20 to 30 percent of attorneys usually become power users. ONGOING AWARENESS CAMPAIGN The firm should promote time capture internally to increase utilization rates. When attorneys talk about time capture, others are more willing to opt-in because of the good experience their colleagues are having. With increased usage, the firm recovers additional billable hours, which, in turn, increases revenue for the firm. The following are some suggestions to encourage participation: • Email messages offering additional training for potential power users • Testimonials from fellow attorneys ("You've got to try this!") to encourage opt-in • Embedding in the intranet portal, so that participating attorneys get more value and non-participating attorneys are made aware of the option When a new time-capture system is implemented and these training practices are followed, a firm can recover an additional six billable hours per attorney per month on average. This additional time goes straight to the bottom line of the firm, maximizing the return of your investment in time capture.
