GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 14 • 1 BY BRIAN NEUBERT BNeubert@GoldandBlack.com F or the third winter in a row, December has been, and will continue to be, a big month for Purdue's football recruiting efforts. As Darrell Hazell and staff stick to their previously established model of bringing in the majority of their official visits after the season, the Boilermaker coaching staff host- ed 11 visitors last weekend and will bring in another 15 or more this coming weekend. Many of those who have or will visit are already committed to the program, but Purdue scored several of the uncommitted visitors from the Dec. 5 weekend and could experience another run of decisions during the Dec. 12 weekend. This week, Purdue landed commitments from four of the six previously uncommitted official visitors. The commitments of junior college re - cruits Anthony Mahoungou (wide receiver) and Shane Henley (defensive end) and high school prospects Chazmyn Turner (defensive end) and Mike Little (cornerback) brought Pur- due's commitment total for 2015 north of 20. There are some fluid situations that will affect Purdue's commitment total — running back Robert Ennis' legal problems are unresolved and wide receiver Tyshawn Brown has committed to commit to Purdue, but needs to get a qualifying test score — but as of right now, the Boilermakers are at 21 commitments, give or take, for a class that could near 30 when all is said and done. Purdue has four projected mid-year signees committed to this point — high school commits Elijah Sindelar and Markell Jones, plus Mahoungou and Henley — and is looking to add several more. Early-enroll- ing recruits count against the yearly limit of the prior season's class, thus creating flexibil- ity for Purdue to get more recruits into the 2015 class. Plenty of needs remain, as the Boiler- maker staff has yet to land a tight end, a position where its depth chart has totally cleared out, but could soon land junior college transfer Cole Hikutini as the first of what'll likely be multiple signees at the position. Tom Campbell Darrell Hazell had a productive weekend, garnering four commitments, during Purdue's first big official visit weekend. He'll hope for similar results when more prospects come to town this weekend. 21 Purdue's football commitments to date. Of those, 11 are listed by Rivals.com as defensive players, seven offensive, two athletes and one kicker. 30 Games in the Matt Painter Era he has started three freshmen, like in the last two contests for the Boilermakers. 3 Head-to-head meetings between members of the Gene Keady coaching tree this season. Saturday, the Boiler- makers face former Boilermaker player and assistant Kevin Stallings. 62.3 Total points under their combined offensive aver- age that Painter's team held IPFW and Arkansas State. The Boil- ermakers yielded just 89 points in the two wins.
