T
he Redskins have few things going for them right now, having already
reached 10 losses, the last being a shutout to St. Louis on Sunday.
But they do have at least one bright spot: Ryan Kerrigan. The fourth-year
professional is turning in his best season, with 11.5 sacks, including two vs.
the Rams, with three games left. According to Pro Football Focus, Kerrigan
is rated as the seventh-best outside linebacker playing in a 3-4 defensive
scheme and is the only 3-4 outside 'backer in the top 10 with above-average
grades in rushing the QB, stopping the run and covering the pass.
This season, Kerrigan has also forced four fumbles, tying his career high
set twice previously, and has 54 tackles, a dozen short of his best.
Many think he could still be even better.
"He has the skill set to be an elite pass-rusher," Brian Baker, the Redskins'
outside linebackers coach, told ESPN.com. "You have to get out of your own
way and don't block yourself. That's the part we're working through and he's
really starting to cross over on that."
GASTON MOVES AGAIN
Bruce Gaston is now in Green Bay.
The Packers signed the undrafted rookie defensive tackle on
Monday, before their game vs. Atlanta, off the Arizona practice
squad. It's only the latest stop for Gaston.
In his short NFL career, the East Chicago native has seen mul-
tiple transactions: Signed by Arizona. Cut by Arizona. Claimed by
New England. Cut by New England. Claimed by Miami. Released
by Miami. Signed to Miami practice squad. Claimed by Arizona.
Released by Arizona. Signed to Arizona practice squad. Signed by
Green Bay.
Gaston was on the 53-man roster but inactive for Green Bay's
win over Atlanta.
