Hey Redlight! Let's get straight to it! In an interview with Vice when talking about Gold Teeth you said: 'Basically it's just fast food, throw-away culture and studio food, but has a deeper meaning when put with other tracks from my album project.' Do you want to tell us more about the album project and what it means to you? When you're writing an album, it's good to have a bigger picture rather than just sin- gular tracks. So they are kind of like a story that fits together within the album. The dif- ferent tracks have to fit together more than just tune for tune. Context within the album is very important. The other day you tweeted 'Vote for me at crufts this year, me and my poodle tony gee, gonna b in the freestyle dog trampolining masterclass. Hold tight lassie my mentor?' If you did a set at Crufts what would be your opening track? That's a difficult one to answer. Man that is so tough. Give me a second to answer this on… Id say Mozart with my dog Tony Gee, it would probably be fluorescent. I'd probably die its hair. If it's a white and black border collie. he'd have stripes and some yellow sun glasses on and we'll come in with Mozart. He'll do some big dance moves before he hit the trampoline then we'll bring it down. What's the funniest thing that's ever happened whilst you've been DJing or on tour? Someone one once threw a massive ball at me, which was like a brick and hit me in the nuts and I got massively winded. So I had to play on and pretend that I was loving life. Also I was on a boat once in Croatia and these dolphins came along the side of the boat and started doing flips and stuff and basically everyone on the whole boat just moved over to the left hand side to look. The whole boat just started tipping like it was going to capsize. I was like, 'Everyone get to the other side of the boat!'. Everyday is quite funny because you can be at the worst gig ever and it's just like a parody. DJing is a bit serial anyway isn't it, because what are you really doing? You're just play- ing a few tunes in front of loads of people and its like a bit of a joke anyway isn't it? Why is your imprint called Lobster Boy? Lobster Boy is my label, a small boutique label but it's getting a bit bigger at the moment. The name started out when I got burnt on the beach. I fell asleep drunk and I woke up on Miami Beach and everyone said you look like a Lobster so we decided to call it Lobster Boy. What is one skill you wish you'd already mastered? Playing the piano. I can tinker about on it but I know a lot of really talented musi- cians and I completely respect everyone's different talents in music, but I think that's what is the fun thing is about it and every- one comes at stuff from a different angle. That's what great about it but the one thing I wish I did when I was younger a bit more was learn the piano. What would you be doing if not DJing? Its hard to say isn't it because I am. It would have to be something creative. I really like making videos. I always get involved in the video process and I like doing art as well, so it would be something visual, involving colours and visuals. One more thing before you go, Guestlist have started doing a bit of quick fire word association to end an interview. So if I say: Music- Egos Drugs – Everywhere Inspiration - Everywhere Alien – Everywhere Enemy - Music Magazine Pet – Chihuahua Fear – Loathing Future – Rapper Youth - Eternal, no, animal 18 Issue 70 / 2014 HOUSE/ TECHNO guestlist.net Bristol based Hugh Pescod, also known as Redlight has been djing and producing beats from house, to grime, to garage, to drum and bass.
