30 Issue70 / 2014 DNB guestlist.net As if Viper's 10 year celebrations wasn't enough, the mighty Shogun Audio shares it's big 1 - 0 birthday this year with a similarly monumental release. Shogun have had a massive year regardless, with Icicle releasing his ear-bending LP 'Entropy' only a few months ago, and their artists continuing to hold the torch for the darker, more experimental side of drum and bass. Thier 10th anniversary release is a is one of our favourite releases of this year, even though the quantity is through the roof, be sure they haven't skipped on quality. Side 1 is a collection of shiny new tracks from the Shogun gang, with massive remixes of classics to fresh releases. Side 2 documenting the prolific history of the Label featuring everyone from Break to Spor to Noisia. This LP pulls us by the scruff of our neck through the deep and dark past of this iconic label, then throws us unrelentingly into it's future. A must have for any self respecting bass head. . NEWSFLASH A DECADE OF SHOGUN AUDIO The Landmark Birthday Bashes Continue ALBUM OF THE YEAR TAXMAN - SYNTHETIC VISIONS Taxman proves he's still top of his game. Our album of the year has to be the latest and arguably greatest offering from drum and bass grand master Taxman. His Synthetic Visions album which dropped earlier this year hasn't left the club floor since, and for good reason. Offering an eclectic and intelligent range of tracks that cover all the bases, from classic Taxman hard hitting jump-up, to oldschool breakbeats that infuse his rich heritage of sound with new and exciting ideas, to masterfully orchestrated down-tempo tracks like "All For Nothing" which features the voice of Diane Charlemagne (who you probably last heard on Goldie's anthemic "Inner City Life"). Bringing his signature brand of atmospheric sampling and unnerving synth sounds whilst adding more mature, exploratory elements to the sound of Synthetic Visions, Taxman shows the world in style he can still destroy the dancefloor whilst staying innovative and keeping it fresh.. More @ guestlist.net/rnb-hiphop 20 years since General Levy's iconic jungle anthem 'Incredible' a lot has changed. Jungle has all but disappeared and resurfaced in it's own right. Celebrating yet another iconic birthday, General Levy has released his new album 'Forward' to mark the anniversary of his golden egg track. Collaborating with italian jungle producer Bonnot, this modern jungle LP seeks to cement the returning popularity of ragga jungle into the audio airwaves showing it can still hold it's own in the modern world of drum and bass, whilst looking to the future exploring new ways this timeless genre can excite a dancefloor..
