WINTER2015 15 Although boarded indoor soccer retains its popularity among adults year-round, HVS has recognized a growth trend in training for outdoor soccer, at least in its area, which is an important reason for the dome. "We can do two 9 v 9 non-boarded games or a full-size 11 v 11," says Elaine Matthews. "The most competitive teams are wanting to do more non-boarded, and less boarded, soccer training. The teams that are more recreational like the boards. The more competitive teams in our area are all trending toward non-boarded, and so they were going to other places to train because we didn't have a non-boarded field. They were driving right past us." HVS also offers futsal now in the space that, ten years ago, was a roller hockey rink. Made primarily for basketball, the space also enables volleyball, which has grown every year. The SPORTS by Sylvie Green
