22 obituaries JANUARY 2-7, 2015 | vAlleY bReeze | NoRth smithfield blAckstoNe wooNsocket editioN Carol Ann DeMers, 82, of Manchester Drive, East Ryegate, Vt., died on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, N.H., following a period of failing health. Carol was born in Worcester, Mass., on Nov. 1, 1932, to Axel and Bernice (Gineikis) Gunnard. She was a graduate of North High School, Class of 1951, in Worcester. On Nov. 26, 1955, she married Ernest W. DeMers. Following high school, she did clerical work at an insur- ance company. In 1975, Carol graduated from the University of Rhode Island with her bach- elor of science degree in food and nutrition and remained an avid student of this. Following graduation, she went to work for Providence Gas Company. Following her time at Providence Gas, she worked with her husband at H&H Machine and Tool Company in Forestdale, R.I. Carol and Ernest began building their home in East Ryegate in 1985 and became permanent residents in 1995, having moved from Cumberland, R.I. She was a member of the Ryegate Corner Presbyterian Church. She and Ernest were active square dancers, belonging to the Country Corner Squares of Lyndonville, Vt., and the Totem Twirlers in Rhode Island. When traveling, they would join square dance groups around the country. They traveled extensively across the country in their motor home. They visited six of the seven continents, includ- ing going above the Arctic Circle and below the Antarctic Circle. Carol loved nature and being outdoors. She participated in bicycle tours with their Rhode Island friends via Vermont Bike Tours, played tennis and belonged to a club in Rhode Island, swam with the Aquamaids in Worcester, and cross-country skied in the win- ter. Carol was always willing to give of her time in assisting others. She was predeceased by a son, Ernest Peter DeMers, on Dec. 7, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ernest W. DeMers of East Ryegate; a daughter, Lisa Boss and husband Earl of Cumberland, R.I.; three grand- children, Kevin Boss of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Elizabeth and Samantha DeMers, both of South Carolina; three broth- ers, Russell Gunnard of Lake Wylie, S.C., Bruce Gunnard, and Mark Gunnard of Holden, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. A calling hour will be on Saturday, Jan. 10, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a memorial ser- vice to begin at 11 a.m. at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, N.H. The Rev. She was the wife of the late Walter Masse and the daughter of the late Eugene and Exilia (Dubois) Mailloux. She leaves a sister, Gertrude J. Jarvis; a nephew, Paul Jarvis; and a niece, Patricia Jarvis. Charles o. Caron, 93, formerly of Willow Street, Woonsocket, died Dec. 17. Beverly Munyon of North Smithfield lost her mother, Alice Irene Issa, 94 of North Providence, Dec. 22. Normand L. Malo, 66, of North Smithfield, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, in his home. He was the husband of the late Carol A. (Beattie) Malo. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Lucien and Yvonne (Sarreault) Malo. Normand was a communi- cant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, and served as their sexton for more than 25 years. He owned his own land- scaping business. Normand enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, camping and being outdoors. He leaves his children, Michael Malo and his wife Kristen, Kelly Kobani and her husband Kevin, and Bryan Malo; his sister, Blanche Rainville; and four grand- children, Kaiden and Koen Kobani and Morgan and Gavin Malo. He also leaves other close family, Glen Beattie, Richard Hackett, Michael Beattie and his wife Lisa; his niece, Andrea Beattie; and nephew, Patrick Rainville. Born in North Smithfield, he was the son of the late Charles P. and Clara (Blanchard) Robinson. A Korean War Navy veter- an, Mr. Robinson worked in various positions for the state of Rhode Island for 25 years. Charles was a member of the LeClair Kozlic Logan Bassett VFW Post 6342, Forestdale, and was an avid Boston sports fan. Besides his wife, Carol, he is sur- vived by their son, Scott Robinson of North Smithfield. His funeral was held Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So.
