GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 15 • 2 player taking ownership of a team. After scoring 18, most of them after halftime, against Minneso- ta, Davis impacted the Michigan game defensively, completely neu- tralizing Wolverine leading scorer Caris LeVert. Meanwhile, point guard Jon Octeus continues to prove to have been a coup for the Boilermakers when he landed in West Lafayette. He's cracked double figures in scoring four games in a row now, on 59-percent shooting, while bringing distinct stability to a po- sition that would otherwise have been a glaring question mark. Freshman Vince Edwards was limited by illness against Minne- sota, but followed up by gouging Michigan for 16 points and play- ing a leading role on the offensive glass. Purdue outrebounded Mich- igan 44-22 and didn't allow a single offensive rebound after halftime off the Wolverines' 18 missed field goals and two missed live-ball free throws. Edwards has been highly ef- ficient as a scoring threat this sea- son, producing on a low volume of shots; shooting team-best (or close) percentages from the field, three-point range and foul line; and taking care of the basketball. Purdue will look to feature him more now, Painter said. "It's something we probably haven't done enough of," Painter said of posting Edwards early. "He scored a lot of points early this sea - son just playing through motion and playing next to two big posts in there. He just found his spots in there. We haven't done a good enough job getting him into some spots to score. We did a little bit more of that (against Michigan)." j 2-0 = Good Things (Usually) Dating back to the days of the Big Dog (1994), the Boilermakers have started Big Ten play with a 2-0 mark just seven times in 22 years.
