"I'm hoping if it is me that it shows other kids something. I'm from Western Kentucky and usually (the winners) come from the Louis- ville area schools or Central Kentucky. That's where most of the attention comes from. Hopefully I can bring it back to Western Kentucky and give oth- er kids confidence to say, 'I'm from West- ern Kentucky and Elijah Sindelar was too and he won Mr. Football.' Hopefully that can give them confidence in themselves. That's the reason I want it." Sindelar threw for more than 3,600 yards this season before tear- ing his ACL running for a touchdown during the state playoffs. He threw 49 touchdowns, in so doing becom- ing Kentucky's all-time career leader, his total now standing at 144. He also set a state record this season by throw- ing a TD in his 41st consecutive game. Sindelar had already been named Ken- tucky's Gatorade Player-of-the-Year.
