GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 15 • 25 12, and the Boilermakers' weight-lifting starts on Thursday, Jan. 15. The grueling 6 a.m. conditioning begins Feb. 23. There will be eight 6 a.m. sessions leading into spring ball. March 10 is Purdue's first spring ball practice, and the spring game is April 18. NEW LOOK Purdue will wear an alternate uniform in 2015, adding gray jerseys to its rotation of black and white. Hazell said there are no plans at this time to do gray helmets, too, but he's eager to show off the jerseys, especially considering it's an option he'd wanted. "We talked about it a long time ago, but then we talked about putting it off until 2015," he said after the season. In Gold and Black Illustrated's 2014 foot- ball preview magazine, players designed mock jerseys and generally liked the idea of having a gray option. ON THE MEND Purdue will have a key couple pieces miss some — if not all — of spring ball while recov- ering from offseason surgeries. Hazell said offensive tackles J.J. Prince and Cameron Cermin had shoulder surgeries after the season, and Prince could be in line for a second on his opposite shoulder. "It all depends on how quickly the oth- er one heals," Hazell said of whether Prince would do the second shoulder. "They didn't want to take both arms away from him at one time." After David Hedelin moved into the start- ing left tackle spot, Prince and Cermin largely split reps at right tackle. Cermin started the last two games when Prince played only, un- officially, 10 snaps when the shoulders really bothered him. Receiver Danny Anthrop is recovering from his ACL surgery, and Hazell said he's hoping the big-play receiver is full go by the beginning of June. GOING FOR THE TITLE Former Boilermaker linebacker and de- fensive coordinator Brock Spack has led Illi- nois State to the FCS national championship game. The seventh-ranked Redbirds (13-1) will play No. 2 North Dakota State (14-1) in their first trip to the title game Saturday in Frisco, Texas. Illinois State's offense used a potent com- bo of former Indiana QB Tre Roberson and running back Marshaun Coprich.
