"WE LOVE IT HERE" U nlike most businessmen who are dressed in expensive wool suits, pressed white shirts, colorful ties and Armani shoes, Glen Loomis wears worn blue jeans, a plaid button-up shirt, a simple yet functional coat and sturdy boots to brave the chilling weather of West Yellowstone, MT. Along with most businessmen comes the cloud of accom- plishments and education flaunt- ed for people to see and acknowl- edge. Loomis leads a humble life. You wouldn't anticipate that this man went to Harvard, spent 11 years in Washington, D.C., worked for the Secretary of Agriculture, spent 16 years on the town council and was the Mayor of West Yellowstone for five years. "I came to West Yellowstone to enjoy it," said Loomis. "But I ended up work- ing to pay bills." Loomis is a Wyoming native but for the past 67 years has lived in West Yellowstone. He and his brother Gale own multiple businesses in West Yellowstone, including Travelers Snowmobile Center, Polaris West, Days Inn, All Yellowstone Horseback Trail Rides and Trappers Restaurant. Over the years Yellowstone National Park has been changing rules as to how many snowmobiles have access to the Park. This change has affected their busi- ness greatly. Rather than roll over, Loomis and his brother Gale pressed on. "Part of life is learning how to deal with anything that comes your way," he said. Loomis and his brother have been working hard to make their companies known so that people know where to go for a good snowmobile ride and a warm, comfortable night's sleep. One important advertising tactic Loomis uses to promote his snowmobiles is the annual World Snowmobile Expo. Glen and Gale Loomis show off the best of their Polaris West snowmobiles for the visitors of West Yellowstone. "It's the family business and we love it here," Loomis said. "If you love it, you take care of it." BY ALLISON HOUTZ GLEN LOOMIS: 42 x West Yellowstone WINTER GUIDE 2014-15
